The
Spelling Channel's first public spelling bee was held December 30,
2005, at the Rudyard Kipling in Louisville.
The
event was a lot of fun, as about 30 contestants squared off against Metroschifter bassist
Patrick McClimans. The winner, Kathy Lewis, was awarded several
Spelling Channel prizes, including a 568
Most Commonly Misspelled Words mouse pad and coffee cup, a free
ride home courtesy of CityScoot designated driver service, and forty dollars in cash. What would
you do with all that awesome stuff?
Our
next spelling bee
will be announced soon. An
open call will be held in advance for contestants. Participation
is open to US citizens age 18 or older. A group of as many as 100
contestants may be selected. We hope to make the group of contestants
as diverse as possible in age and demographics. This web site will
contain date, time and other information as it becomes available.
Eventually,
we would like to produce a series of spelling bees and bee/tv-gameshow-style
events. Recordings of these events would be cut into episodes and
posted as on-demand media at this web site, in iPod and broadcast
formats.
We
hope you will stay tuned, then join us when we are ready to s-p-e-l-l
out the details!
